Protesters scuffle with police before Obama's town hall meeting in Soweto

Smoke fills the air as police use stun grenades in an attempt to disperse protesters outside the University of Johannesburg in Soweto, ahead of a visit by U.S. President Barack Obama, June 29, 2013.
Hundreds of South African demonstrators clashed with police outside of the Soweto campus of the University of Johannesburg on Saturday before a planned appearance by President Obama.
Between 150 to 200 demonstrators held signs that depicted the President as Hitler and demanded that the United States lift trade sanctions against Cuba. Scuffles broke out between the demonstrators and police as they stood across the road from the university. “Go back, Obama,” the demonstrators chanted.
South African critics of the U.S. president have voiced their disapproval of his use of drone strikes, the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, and the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba. Overall, polls show widespread approval in South Africa for the American leader, with 72 percent of South Africans saying they have a favorable image of the U.S. in a June 27 Pew poll. Seventy-four percent of South Africans say they trust Obama to handle world affairs.

Protestors face police officers during a demonstration against the visit of US President Barak Obama in South Africa on June 29, 2013 in Soweto. US President Barack Obama Saturday decided not to visit his political hero Nelson Mandela in hospital to preserve the "peace and comfort" of the anti-apartheid legend, whose family he will meet to offer prayers instead.
“Our rejection is based on the USA's arrogant, selfish and oppressive foreign policies, treatment of workers and international trade relations that are rooted in war mongering, neo-liberal super-exploitation, colonial racism and the disregard and destruction of the environment, thus making the realization of a just and peaceful world impossible,” organizers of the “NO-Bama” protests said in a statement.
The group, which consist of students, members of the Young Communist League, Azanian People’s Organization, and the South African Communist Party said that it was important to demonstrate before Saturday’s town hall meeting because it was a “poor and undemocratic decision [for the university] to host and confer an honorary doctorate to President Barack Obama.”
White House deputy national security adviser Benjamin J. Rhodes said only that South Africa is a “vibrant democracy” ahead of the protests, according to the New York Times.
While the demonstrators received a permit to protest across the street from the school, police cleared the area, forcing the protests up the road to a vacant lot around 2:30pm local time.

BREAKING: Actress Laide Bakare May Go To Jail

The last may not have been heard in the ongoing war between Nollywood popular actress, Laide Bakare and her estranged husband, Olumide Okunfulire. This is because US-based businessman has vowed to slug it out with the delectable actress over the paternity of the child she claimed to have bore for her new hubby, Tunde Oriowo.

The Ondo State-born dude has reportedly told his lawyers to institute a lawsuit against Laide. Olumighty, as Okunfulire is fondly called by friends, allegedly said that Laide will have to answer if truly she got court judgement, which dissolved their marriage before she got married to Oriowo, her new husband.

Olumide maintained that Laide’s new baby boy belongs to him, adding that she became pregnant in his house. He also claimed that the actress registered at the US hospital, where she eventually gave birth, with his name and Green Card.

With the way things are going, Laide might be charged for bigamy and if found guilty by the court, she risks jail term.
Industry sources told First Weekly that Okunfulire may drop charges against Laide if the actress realises her mistakes and beg for forgiveness.

“I can tell you that Olumide (Okunfulire) is only trying to shake Laide. He just wants to make life unbearable for her, Laide is aware of this, which is why she has not responded to the ‘noise’ Olumide has been making since the news of her child birth hit town,”
a source informed us.

Meanwhile, those in the camp of Laide have disclosed that Tunde is the real father of the baby. They claimed that Laide and Tunde had been an item for sometime before they decided to solemnise the relationship with a secret wedding and that she was actually pregnant for him before then. Pictures were sent to us to back up the claim. The actress is still in the USA with her baby and new husband as at press time.

RIOT AT UNIVERSITY OF UYO LEAVES 3 STUDENT DEAD

The Engineering students of the University of Uyo this afternoon went for a peaceful demonstration to the office of the school's Vice Chancellor, Prof Comfort Ekpo, after the VC mandated students to pay N100 for the school bus which used to be free. The school management had shifted most of the Science student courses to the school's permanent site which is about 20 minutes drive from the main campus, and then made the shuttle N100. That means students will have to pay N200 to and fro everyday to the permanent campus for most of their lectures.

This was what the students were protesting this afternoon when things went crazy. The peaceful protest turned violent after security officials at the V.C's office tried to stop the students from gaining access to the Vice Chancellor.

The students allegedly retaliated by throwing stones at the security officials, who then called for police back-up which led to the riot. The police arrived the scene and aggravated the situation by firing shots at the students, killing at least one student. Some say two. Some say three.

Angry students now proceeded to burn down the VC's office, the exams and records building, and a security office. Students have been evacuated from the hostel, and the school has been shut down indefinitely.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi "I am Fulan"

sanusi

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on a book Launch In Lagos.

“Let me start by saying that I am Fulani (laughter). My grandfather was an Emir and therefore I represent all that has been talked about this afternoon. Sir Ajayi has written a book. And like all Nigerians of his generation, he has written in the language of his generation.”
“My grandfather was a Northerner, I am a Nigerian. The problem with this country is that in 2009, we speak in the language of 1953. Sir Olaniwun can be forgiven for the way he spoke, but I cannot forgive people of my generation speaking in that language.”

“Let us go into this issue because there are so many myths that are being bandied around. Before colonialism, there was nothing like Northern Nigeria, Before the Sokoto Jihad, there was nothing like the Sokoto caliphate. The man from Kano regards himself as bakane. The man from Zaria was bazazzage. The man from Katsina was bakatsine. The kingdoms were at war with each other. They were Hausas, they were Muslims, and they were killing each other. “The Yoruba were Ijebu, Owo, Ijesha, Akoko, Egba. When did they become one? When did the North become one? You have the Sokoto Caliphate that brought every person from Adamawa to Sokoto and said it is one kingdom. They now said it was a Muslim North.”

“The Colonialists came, put that together and said it is now called the Northern Nigeria. Do you know what happened? Our grand fathers were able to transform to being Northerners. We have not been able to transform to being Nigerians. The fault is ours. Tell me, how many governors has South-West produced after Awolowo that are role models of leadership? How many governors has the East produced like Nnamdi Azikiwe that can be role models of leadership? How Manygovernors in the Niger Delta are role models of leadership? Tell me. There is no evidence statistically that any part of this country has produced good leaders. You talk about Babangida and the economy. Who were the people in charge of the economy during
Babangida era? Olu Falae, Kalu Idika Kalu. What state are they from in the North?”
“We started the banking reform; the first thing I heard was that in Urobo land, that there will be a curse of the ancestors. I said they (ancestors) would not answer. They said why? I said how many factories did Ibru build in Urobo land? So, why will the ancestors of the Urobo people support her?”
“We talk ethnicity when it pleases us. It is hypocrisy. You said elections were rigged in 1959, Obasanjo and Maurice Iwu rigged election in 2007. Was it a Southern thing? It was not.”
“The problem is: everywhere in this country, there is one Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba and Itshekiri man whose concern is how to get his hands on the pile and how much he can steal.Whether it is in the military or in the civilian government, they sit down, they eat together. In fact, the constitution says there must be a minister from every state.”
“So, anybody that is still preaching that the problem of Nigeria is Yoruba or Hausa or Fulani, he does not love Nigeria. The problem with Nigeria is that a group of people from each and every ethnic tribe is very selfish. The poverty that is found in Maiduguri is even worse than any poverty that you find in any part of the South. The British came for 60 years and Sir Ajayi talked about few numbers of graduates in the North (two at independence) . What he did not say was that there was a documented policy of the British when they came that the Northerner should not be educated. It was documented. It was British colonial policy. I have the document. I have published articles on it. That if you educate the Northerner you will produce progressive Muslim intellectuals of the type we have in Egypt and India. So, do not educate them. It was documented. And you say they love us (North).”

“I have spent the better part of my life to fight and Dr. (Reuben) Abati knows me. Yes, my grandfather was an Emir. Why was I in the pro- democracy movement fighting for June 12? Is (Moshood) Abiola from Kano ? Why am I a founding director of the Kudirat Initiative for Nigerian Development (KIND)?
“There are good Yoruba people, good Igbo people, good Fulani people, good Nigerians and there are bad people everywhere. That is the truth.”
“Stop talking about dividing Nigeria because we are not the most populous country in the world. We have all the resources that make it easy to make one united great Nigeria . It is better if we are united than to divide it.”
“Every time you talk about division, when you restructure, do you know what will happen? In Delta Area, the people in Warri will say Agbor, you don’t have oil. When was the Niger Delta constructed as a political entity? Ten years ago, the Itshekiris were fighting the Urobos. Isn’t that what was happening? Now they have become Niger Delta because they have found oil. After, it will be, if you do not have oil in your village then you cannot share our resources.”
“There is no country in the world where resources are found in everybody’s hamlet. But people have leaders and they said if you have this geography and if we are one state, then we have a responsibility for making sure that the people who belong to this country have a good nature.”
“So, why don’t you talk about; we don’t have infrastructure, we don’t have education, we don’t have health. We are still talking about Fulani. Is it the Fulani cattle rearer or is anybody saying there is no poverty among the Fulani?”
This is a great message to our generation. Are we truly ready to develop and unite Nigeria?

Wentworth Earl Miller III aka Michael Scofied co produces |Stoker| 2013

Wentworth Earl Miller III (born June 2, 1972) is a American actor, model, screenwriter and producer. He rose to stardom following his role as Michael Scofield in the Fox Network television series Prison Break. He made his screenwriting debut with the 2013 horror film Stoker.

Early life

Born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, Miller is the son of American parents Joy Marie (née Palm), a special education teacher, and Wentworth Earl Miller II, a lawyer and teacher.[1][2] Miller's father, a Rhodes Scholar, was studying at Oxford at the time of Miller's birth.
Miller is of multiracial origin: his father is of African-American, Jamaican, English, German, Jewish, and Cherokee background, and his mother is of Russian, French, Dutch, Lebanese, and Syrian ancestry.[3][4][5][6]
His family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, when he was a year old.[7] Miller retains dual citizenship.[8] Wentworth has two sisters, Leigh and Gillian. He attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York, and was a member of SING!, an annual musical production that was started by Midwood. His family moved to Aleppo Township outside of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Quaker Valley High School, in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, in 1990. He graduated from Princeton University completing his bachelor's degree in English Literature. While at Princeton, he performed with the a cappella group the Princeton Tigertones and was first a member of the Quadrangle Club, and later the Colonial Club.[9]

Career

Acting

Wentworth Miller signing autographs after Prison Break in Beverly Hills, California, October 21, 2008
In 1995, Miller relocated to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career, but he has always been a very attractive human being.[10] He has stated that his rocky road to stardom "was a long time in the coming and there were a lot of upsets and a lot of failures and roadblocks, but I couldn’t walk away from it. I needed it like I needed air, it was just something I had to do."[11]
Miller's first TV appearance was as student-turned-sea monster Gage Petronzi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer ("Go Fish", 1998).
Miller's first starring role was in 2002 as the sensitive, introverted David Scott in ABC's mini-series Dinotopia. After appearing in a few minor television roles, he moved on to co-star in the 2003 film The Human Stain, playing the younger version of the Anthony Hopkins character, Coleman Silk. He identified strongly with the core dilemma of the movie, being that of a man struggling with his heritage. Miller worked extensively on the role, not only in researching Anthony Hopkins, but by embarking on a four month regimen to accurately portray Silk as a boxer.
He had a minor role in the film Underworld, playing a doctor and friend of the character Michael Corvin.
In 2005, Miller was cast as Michael Scofield in Fox Network's television drama Prison Break. He played the role of a caring brother who created an elaborate scheme to help his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) escape death row after being found guilty of a crime he did not commit. His character had a full upper body (front and back) tattoo. Covering both the front of Miller's torso and his back, along with both arms from shoulders to wrists, the special effects for the tattoo took over four hours to apply. His performance in the show earned him a 2005 Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series.[12]
Miller appeared in two Mariah Carey music videos, "It's Like That" as a party guest and "We Belong Together" as her love interest. Director Brett Ratner, who directed the pilot episode of Prison Break, was also signed on to direct the two Carey videos. Ratner decided to use Miller in the videos as well.[13]
In addition, Miller guest-starred on the Season 11 premiere of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit as Detective Nate Kendall, a detective from Precinct 24 of the NYPD.[14][15] He also featured in Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth film in the commercially successful Resident Evil film series based on the video game series of the same name; Miller plays Chris Redfield, one of the protagonists of the video game series.

Screenwriting

Miller wrote the screenplay for the film Stoker, as well as a prequel to Stoker, Uncle Charlie.[16] He used the pseudonym Ted Foulke, later explaining "I just wanted the scripts to sink or swim on their own."[17] Miller's script was voted to the 2010 "Black List" of the 10 best unproduced screenplays then making the rounds in Hollywood.[18] The film is about a teenage girl who must deal with a mysterious uncle following the death of her father. Miller described it as a "horror film, a family drama and a psychological thriller."[19] Although influenced by Bram Stoker's Dracula, Miller has clarified that Stoker is not a vampire story.[19][20] Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt also influenced the film but only as a jumping-off point, from which the story takes a different direction.[19] Park Chan-wook directed, with stars Mia Wasikowska as the teenager, Nicole Kidman as the mother, and Matthew Goode as the uncle.[21] The film was released in 2013. Miller has also sold a screenplay for a film called "The Disappointments Room", the story reportedly also a family drama with horror elements as is "Stoker", to Voltage Pictures and Killer Films.[22] Miller is reportedly in negotiations to write the screenplay adaptation of the novel The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski which is set to be produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tom Hanks among others.[23]

Boko Haram Threatens Shoprite

Boko Haram Threatens Shoprite
Shoprite

Lagos – Shoprite, a South Africa's chain store operating in Nigeria, is under severe threat from suspected Boko Haram terrorists. Police confirmed they are investigating the matter after text messages were sent to employees of the retail chain, threatening to blow up an outlet in Lagos.

Terrorists warned they had planted some explosives in fruit juice packs at one of the Shoprite outlets.
Part of a message obtained by CAJ News reads, “It is true, we do not deserve amnesty.  You will even be surprised how we got your number. We came to Shoprite on a mission to drop a bomb. That day, we sowed bullet into Five Alive packs. We are from Niger. Someone gave us your number from Abuja. We will make sure we destroy every Shoprite.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the threats.
Investigations have begun to ascertain the identity of the sender, she said. Shoprite has received similar threats in the past, warranting the closure of some shops.

However, the threats proved to be empty. This is not the first time a South African firm is being targeted by terrorists in Nigeria.

Last year, MTN facilities in some northern parts of the country were destroyed by members of Boko Haram

Brazilian Student Sells Her Virginity For £500,000

A BRAZILIAN student has reportedly sold her virginity for almost half a million pounds in an online auction.
Catarina Migliorini, 20, was one of two virgins to take part in the auction for an Australian documentary.
A Japanese man bid £487,000 to be the first to take her to bed. Catarina said she would use the money to study medicine in Argentina, according to Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo.

“I am 20, I am responsible for my body and I am not hurting anyone,” she said. “For me, it’s not prostitution. When someone does something once in his or her life, this is not considered a profession. If you take a picture and it comes out good, you are not a photographer because of it.”

Russian lad Alexander Stepanov also sold his virginity on the Virgins Wanted auction, receiving the winning bid of £1,876 from Brazil.

The documentary has attracted criticism on its Facebook page with several users voicing concerns over the ethics of the auction.
According to the auction’s terms, Catarina will undergo a medical examination to prove she is a virgin and the consummation will take place within the next ten days.
The “rules” also ban the use of intimacy gadgets, kissing and recording, as well as stipulating a minimum time of one hour.

Each virgin will reportedly receive $20,000 as well as 90 percent of their “sale” figure.
Catarina was previously said to be taking part to raise money for the poor.

Security in the Northern Part of Nigeria is the most tactless, uncouth, unenlightened, ungainly, unskillful, ignorant, ill-bred, indecent, indelicate, inelegant, insensible, lewd, loud-mouthed, loutish, lowbred, oafish, obscene, raunchy, rude, savage, smutty, tacky in the world.

There was a bomb blast in Boston five days later the perpetrators were caught... 1 dead and the other in custody of appropriate force. Its a big shame to remember the Bomb blast of different churches in December 25th 2011 and January 1, 2012 which significantly tell us that one week our own JTF could not make any arrest, all we hear on the news are mere formality in assumption of arrest for Nigerians to watch on TV.  The families of all Boko boys bomb blast's victims want answers but its seems that what they want is not forthcoming as the terror Islamist group keep showing its dominance over Nigeria Security forces (JTF).

The bloody Friday in a remote town of Baga, near the border with Chad was reportedly to have residents fled into the bush and only returned on Sunday afternoon to find much of the town destroyed and human and animal corpses strewn through the streets.

Brigadier General Austin Edokpaye said "Boko Haram extremists used heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades in the assault, which began after soldiers, surrounded a mosque they believed housed members of the radical Islamic extremist network Boko Haram. Extremists earlier had killed a military officer".

Edokpaye also said extremists used civilians as human shields during the fighting — implying that soldiers opened fire in neighbourhoods where they knew civilians lived.

“When we reinforced and returned to the scene the terrorists came out with heavy firepower, including (rocket-propelled grenades), which usually has a conflagration effect,” the general said.

After watching the dramatic arrest of the Boston, MA, USA based Checheyen born Marathon bombers. When the governor of Massachusetts pleaded with the residence of Boston, Cambridge and other cities to stay in door and instructed them not to open the their doors for any stranger. These moves and tactics where very cohesive in the  wide search of two brother whom were involve the bombing.

Can you all agree with on this fact that "Security in the Northern Part of Nigeria is the most tactless, uncouth, unenlightened, ungainly, unskillful, ignorant, ill-bred, indecent, indelicate, inelegant, insensible, lewd, loud-mouthed, loutish, low-bred, oafish, obscene, raunchy, rude, savage, smutty, tacky in the world."

Checkout How These Women Are Being Search By A Security Officer?

The Security situation in the Northern part of Nigeria has become very worse due to the Boko Haram bombing. Just checkout how these ladies were being search by a security personnel. Was it really necessary for the security officer to put his hands near the ladies genitalia to make sure there was nothing there? In this era of technology, I know there are cheap security devices out there for these kind of search, so I wonder why the security officer decided to turn his hands into a searching device. Can his hands really detect a hidden bomb?

You can now send money on Facebook using GTBank (LOOK)

Guaranty Trust Bank Plc has yet again raised the service bar for Nigerian banks with the unveiling of its ‘Social Banking’ service on Facebook which allows the public open GTB accounts via their Facebook account.

The new offering which is the first of its kind by any Nigerian Bank allows GTBank Social Account holders transfer money, purchase airtime, pay bills, and confirm their account balance on Facebook.

Speaking at the launch of the social banking platform, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the bank, Mr Segun Agbaje said the bank is committed to ensuring its stakeholders perform financial transactions at their convenience and would continue to introduce safe and novel alternative channels for them to do so.

He further confirmed that the Social Account is different from having a regular GTBank account as it enables people perform banking activities like money transfers, airtime purchases and bills payments while on Facebook.

Agbaje reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to discovering new ways of decongesting the banking halls without excluding people from its operations.

According to him, “the way to decongesting banking halls is not through excluding people but providing innovative platforms to better service for our customers.”

He however added that the bank would further spread its wings across the country with an additional 25 to 30 traditional and e-branches before the end of the year. Guaranty Trust Bank plc. has been at the forefront of industry innovations within the Nigerian financial services sector. The Bank was the first to see social media as a viable means to reach its stakeholders and presently has over 950,000 Facebook fans; the largest for any African bank.

The Bank’s other recent introductions include GTBank Mobile Money, a highly secure application that allows customers and non GTBank customers perform transfers and payments from their mobile phones, a ‘FastTrack’ banking system that allows customers withdraw money within the Bank’s branches using their debit cards, the GTCrea8 eSavers virtual account for undergraduates and the GTBank e-Account for salary earners, which enables them conduct all their banking activities without having to visit a physical bank branch.
